Esai Morales (L) and Eric Stolz (R) star in the direct-to-dvd release of 'Caprica,' the 'Battlestar Galactica' spin-off which will air on SyFy in 2010.
The much anticipated ‘Caprica’ finally made its way to DVD this week just as news was announced as ‘Battlestar Galactica’ will be making its way to Blu-Ray later this year.
I have not yet seen the movie, as it’s wait listed on my Netflix account. The reviews thus far have been a mix bag. Some have liked it. Some have hated it. Some have wished it didn’t exist. Some of this could be attributed to the fact that the series won’t air until 2010.
If waiting for the final ten episodes of its parent was bad enough, it appears the wait for ‘Caprica’ will be even more painful. (I sometimes have felt that the extended delay in airing the series contributed to its fall from grace. Just ask the producers of ‘Jericho’ what bouncing timeslots and a long will do to a series.)
For those that don’t know, ‘Caprica’ is a prequel to ‘BSG.’ The setting is 58 years on Caprica (hence the title). The series centers around two families: Daniel Greystone (Eric Stoltz) and Joseph Adams (Esai Morales). Greystone is a technology inventor who, really created Caprica’s internet. Adams (who changed his name from Adama to hide his native Tauron name) is a lawyer. Their paths converge after a tragedy strikes both families.
That’s it. I’ll post more when I get the DVD. (One of my goals this summer is to write reviews of stuff.)
