The movie ‘The Map Reader’ was filmed in New Zealand and is about a story of an introverted 16-year-old boy who only has his troubled mother and classmates for company. The boy is obsessed with cartography (map making) and his absent a dad, a pilot (possibly).
Michael Hurst plays Alison’s father.
