UHV announces Xena, Hercules season 4 DVDs

xenaseason4

Fans of XENA and HERCULES will be able to pick up season four of both series late in the first quarter of 2013. Like the previous three season releases, these are just the episodes with no bonus material such as commentaries, etc. They are great for the person who is just getting into either series (or both, which I recommend). The sets are set to be released March 13, 2013.

MCA announces ‘Xena’ series

Xena1

While searching old XENA news on Google, I came across a press release announcing the series. It was quite humorous in that it included a mention of a character that never made it to the series.

The press release is from May 5, 1995. It makes a mention of the Xena trilogy episodes and the characters first initial appearance on HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS (that series can currently be seen on The Hub network Monday through Thursday at 10 p.m. EST).

Long time no post: An update on the website

xena_solan_S2It has been since June 2012 since I last posted to the website. A lot of things have happened in my life. My new job, getting my dad into a nursing home and graduate school has seemingly zapped all my free time. And while it almost seems pointless to continue to update a website based on a TV show that is no longer airing and the only people doing anything from the series were the secondary major characters (Karl Urban, Marton Csokas, etc.), I still love working on the website.

For 14 years this website has been on the web and I have enjoyed revamping it, working on it, adding new content, etc.. I’m not one for change or giving things up that have been a significant part of my life.

But more importantly, the post series work and adventures of the cast and crew has been for the most part a yawn. And while I have enjoyed a few things (Lucy’s guest appearances on ‘Battlestar Galactica’) the actors and crew have done, none of it compares to that of the show.

This does not mean I don’t wish the cast and crew the best, I do. But in all honesty, I have about as much use for a celebrity who takes on causes that defy logic (ROC’s seminars) or break the law (Lucy’s B&E on a Shell-hired ship) as I do expired milk. It smells and tastes horrible, but I also hate milk.. This does not mean they should stick to acting and forget the rest. But not all their “fans dig it” and most really don’t appreciate getting blasted by their fellow fans for stating they dislike it. In other words, I’m sticking to ‘Xena’ and ‘Hercules’ and that’s that.

The fandom is what it is and for that, I’ll post what I can and when I want. Stuff about conventions, etc. are always welcome additions. But posts about an actor’s work in climate change which, ahem, many reputable scientists who rely on fact, not conjecture and crackpot science, say is up for debate do not and will not go here.

But I’ll also post things about the actors that are of worthiness such as guest appearances.

Plug is pulled on Spartacus

STARZ network has announced that the upcoming season of SPARTACUS will be the final season of the hugely popular series.

In a statement released to EW.com, series creator Steven S. DeKnight said they were about 90% sure going into the the third season, subtitled “War of the Damned” would be the final season.

Historically, ending the series now made sense to DeKnight. The third season will see the introduction of Crassius and Julius Caesar.

“Looking at the story in the history books, it’s wave after wave of Roman senators going after Spartacus who are defeated until [Roman general Marcus Crassus] comes in,” DeKnight says. “There’s only so many battles you can put a spin on. So let’s pick out the most interesting moments in this struggle and lay out a clear narrative for Spartacus and his rebellion. I wanted to lay out a strong forward narrative with a strong antagonist.”

The series lasted despite losing its lead star Andy Whitfield after he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.  It was hopeful that Whitfield would return to the role after recovering. However, Whitfield relapsed and the role was recast for season two. Whitfield passed away last summer.

One thing is certain about the ending. It will not mimic the ending from the film starring Kirk Douglas.
